Realistic fiction, be it contemporary or historical, funny or mysterious, romantic or adventurous. These are the stories that represent the real world of the past and present (but not the future) with all of its flaws and pain and humor and beauty. Books that respect their audience; books that teens will press into their friends’ hands with fervor in their eyes and say, “You HAVE to read this.”
CATEGORY CHAIR: CHRISTOPHER HELTON
A card-carrying member of every public library he’s ever lived near, he regularly writes about books over at Plucked from the Stacks. When not reading for the Cybils, he can usually be found with his nose buried in some other book. Read Christopher’s full bio here.
