McAfee Prepares Initial Public Offering (IPO)

Mcafee

McAfee is a security and analytics firm that has been protecting computers and sharing data with users over the last few decades. The company is particularly useful for both theoretical and practical purposes. The company provides intelligence to its users regarding cybersecurity for home and professional use.

It also provides a practical software that can be purchased that gives users security controls like the ability to make adjustments to firewall settings, browser security, integration with other security devices, and a scanning program that can identify malware and other threat agents and remove them.

McAfee, which is a company owned by Intel, is preparing for its initial public offering (IPO) this week in the United States. According to many reliable sources, there is some objective, informative data that has been published in the open source regarding the details surrounding McAfee’s IPO. The company is expected to go public today (Thursday). There will be $37 million shares priced between $19 to $22.

The company will trade on Nasdaq under the name MCFE. What remains to be seen is how McAfee will use stock options to expand its organization. It already has a reputation of being a valuable resource for technology users that conduct research or are tasked with the responsibility of mitigating threat agents.

It is safe to suggest that McAfee and Intel are looking forward to expanding their place in the market for cybersecurity solutions. After the IPO, McAfee-which is already a household name for many users-will become more visible as access to its programs and data continue to expand.

While McAfee has not publicly stated information regarding its new innovations, there are some key areas which the cybersecurity program is likely to show up. The first platform that comes to mind is mobile. McAfee for laptop and desktop computers are extraordinarily popular. On mobile there are many different apps available that offer similar services to McAfee. However, since the company is trusted by its consumer base, if they were to improve and expand their mobile apps this could be a key area of growth for the organization.

It would particularly be a strong option for Android smartphone users. Android is known for having customization and a wide variety of apps for its users. Approximately 51% of smartphone  users globally use an Android.

If McAfee releases updated mobile apps that are convenient security controls for Android, the company could assert itself as the most widely-used cybersecurity platform for smartphones.

McAfee could also make their mobile applications available on iOS, but they would receive less traction because Apple products are built with privacy and security in mind. Therefore, many iPhone and iPad users will feel like they already have the necessary security controls to protect their devices.

However, if McAfee can deliver a good user interface on iOS it would increase their chances of getting a portion of Apple users to download their cybersecurity apps. What is really exciting about McAfee’s IPO is that the company is willing to share its intelligence to internet users on all platforms. As a public company, they can offer analytics in a variety of ways.

Certainly the company will still have the free content that it promotes in the open source, but it can be expected that they will have subscription options for users who want to gather specific types of intelligence ranging from malware protection to competitive analytics for business.
