Lorde is a unique artist. She has a vocal that is magical in the sense that it can make many of her songs catchy and perfect for pop radio. The sounds of her instrumentation are a mixture of drum machines and live instruments that are interwoven into a tapestry that makes sounds that have never been heard before. When fans hear her music on the radio, it is easy for them to know within a few moments who created the song they are listening to. Lorde’s career started off quickly as she strung together a few chart-topping hits from her first album and became the musical director for one of The Hunger Games films.
She declares that the cover art is “a little bit feral”. That is an interesting way of describing the art. The image was taken on the beach while she is jumping over the camera. The term “feral” refers to something being in a wild state, particularly after being in a place that is restrictive in nature. Prior to the release of this album cover, Lorde’s other images for albums, performing and music videos have been more on the conservative side. Perhaps this new album cover is a way for her to take her “good girl” image to a new place.
Lorde recently appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and he wasn’t allowed to show the actual album art on TV. Lorde explained that “It was just me jumping over a friend on the beach… It’s a little hardcore, but it was so joyful to me.
“It felt innocent and playful and a little bit feral.”
She added that the album is inspired by the “natural world”. Her previous two records were about aspects of the natural world also as it pertains to relationships and human composition. It sounds like the artist is going to take this inspiration to the next level.
Lorde wrote in a statement: “There’s someone I want you to meet. Her feet are bare at all times. She’s sexy, playful, feral, and free. She’s a modern girl in a deadstock bikini, in touch with her past and her future, vibrating at the highest level when summer comes around. Her skin is glowing, her lovers are many. I’m completely obsessed with her, and soon you will be too. It’s my divine pleasure to be introducing you, at long last, to my third studio album, SOLAR POWER.”
Lorde is looking to make a soundtrack for the summer with her new album. The release date is not official, but it should be releasing sometime soon.
