Listen: The Criticals – “Adoringly Drunk” –

A hooky rock single out today from Nashville-based band The Criticals, “Adoringly Drunk” represents the first single from their forthcoming debut album. The project, formed by Parker Forbes and Cole Shugart in 2018, have drawn an ample following with a steady stream of singles and acclaimed live performances — and now appear with strong momentum toward the album, with the impactful “Adoringly Drunk,” described as “about being adoringly drunk and experiencing unrequited love.”

“Shoot me down with your carnal knowledge,” a soaring croon exudes amidst heavy guitar distortion, capturing a sense of rejection upon the realization of something truly unrequited. Prior, a suave vocal direction — “I will die every night, if it meant you possibly want me,” — envelops alongside thumping bass and an infectious bridge, with shades of The Strokes upon the “still unable to cut through all this noise,” ascent. The title-touting hook proves punchy and replay-inducing thereafter. We’re certainly anticipating the upcoming album, which is produced by Jonathan Gilmore.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
