Lionsgate, one of Hollywood’s famous premiere movie and television studios has partially opened on January 11 in Yonkers, NY.

The studio has other locations in Santa Monica, CA, and New York City. It plans a $500 million expansion at its current structure located on the Hudson River in Downtown Yonkers near the new Saw Mill River Plaza and Yonkers’ new Metro-North Railroad station on Wells Avenue at the former Otis Elevator Company site. The newest complex has become the largest film and TV studio production facility in the Northeast.

It was created to meet the high demand for larger studio space in the Westchester area. The new studio is owned and operated by Great Point Studios; run by Robert Halmi, the president and CEO of Hallmark Entertainment, and Fehmi Zeko. The studio is 20 minutes from Manhattan and has dubbed itself, The Burbank of New York. There are three soundstages and 500,000 square feet of office space according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The new space is now being used for Lionsgate Television’s Run The World series for Starz. In addition, other long-term tenants utilizing the space are Mediapro and Syracuse University. There’s even a parking deck for 363 cars.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano has been trying for years to partner with a movie studio to revitalize the city’s economy and bring major tenants to the city as well to attract film and TV studios and make Yonkers an official hub of film and TV production. He says it’s a major game-changer for Yonkers.
