Lil Uzi Vert’s ‘Pink Tape’ Reaches A Major Milestone

Lil Uzi Vert’s 2023 album Pink Tape has hit a major sales landmark, just over a year after its June 2023 release — the project is now certified platinum.

The RIAA announced that the project hit the million album-equivalent units mark on Friday (August 9).

In addition, Uzi’s “Just Wanna Rock,” which was the album’s lead single, was certified quadruple platinum on the same day.

Pink Tape got a 3.1/5 rating from HipHopDX‘s Isaac Fontes.

“[O]nly a portion of Pink Tape is successful in proving Uzi’s potential as the groundbreaking artist they set out to be,” Fontes wrote.

“Across Pink Tape’s 26 tracks, Uzi pulls from a wide array of influences, including nu-metal (‘CS’), rage (‘Aye’), futuristic trap (‘Suicide Doors’) and even pop (‘Endless Fashion,’ ‘Mama, I’m Sorry’), but the result is an overwhelmingly sprawling offering that lacks cohesion and structure. In Uzi’s world, they’re an outsider with a musically diverse palette who is constantly misunderstood and ahead of their time. The truth is that they fail to blend it all into a properly fleshed-out project.”

Uzi’s new certifications come as they seems to be backing away from previously-announced retirement plans.

In a recent conversation with social media personality Ben Weiss, Uzi was asked what they were working on and revealed that their next album would be Eternal Atake 2. This directly contradicts what they told fans back in October, however.

During night two of their Pink Tape Tour in Chicago, the Philadelphia rapper said that their upcoming album Luv Is Rage 3 would be their “last.”

The 28-year-old promised fans that they will embark on one more tour to support the project, but said they will retire from music after it finishes in hopes of leading a “normal life.”

Luv Is Rage 3 will be my last album,” Uzi told the crowd at the time, which was met by audible disappointment. “No, relax. It’s okay […] After Luv Is Rage 3, I guess I will go on another tour for Luv Is Rage 3. But after that, I wanna try to live a normal life.”
