Landmarks Around The World Light Up for Ukraine

Iconic landmarks are lighting up in Ukraine’s Flag Blue and Yellow colors.

Luminous buildings in blue and yellow colors appear in many cities all over the world. They show their solidarity for Ukraine. After Russia’s full-out war on Ukraine, about 150.000 Ukrainians have fled to neighboring countries to protect themselves from violence. People from around the world show their solidarity through art and projection onto buildings. It proves that art can be a powerful tool to share memories, voices, struggles, and transnational solidarities.

Here’s a list of cities that light up in blue and yellow colors to stand with Ukraine:

New York

Twelve landmarks in New York beamed in Ukraine’s flag colors, from Friday night (25/2) and throughout the weekend. Among them are One World Trade Center, Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, State Education Building, Empire State Plaza, and The “Franklin D. Roosevelt” Mid-Hudson Bridge.

Quoted from NBC New York, Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a statement. “We stand in solidarity with those in New York who are scared for their family and loved ones, and our prayers are with the innocent victims as they fight to maintain their freedom as a sovereign people and nation.”

Paris

Paris’ Eiffel Tower also lit up in blue and yellow took a stance against Russia’s attack on Ukraine.

London

On Thursday (24/2), protestors demonstrated at 10 Downing Street in London. The city’s Ferris wheel, the London Eye, also glowed blue and yellow on Friday. London’s Trafalgar Square, Nelson’s Column glowed with the colors of the Ukrainian flag as well.

Berlin

Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate beamed in yellow and blue colors in an act of solidarity with Ukraine. Quoted from Euronews, people gathered in front of the monument and held flags to express their sympathy for the people of Ukraine.
