It was reported in South Korean media that actor Kim Woo Bin had secretly sent his condolences to the funeral of a civilian that he did not know personally. It was for the late Song Gil Yong, who died a tragic death.
Song Gil Yong’s story had been reported in the media due to its tragic nature. He passed away due to a traffic accident on August 26, 2024. He had been living off welfare from the government and scraped a meagre living together by selling recyclable materials he collected off the streets. On the day he died, he had also been driving his truck around to collect materials. He collided with a dump truck and passed away. He was also consistently witnessed searching for his missing daughter in public.
The actor’s name had been seen on flower wreaths at the funeral, leading to many wondering how Kim Woo Bin knew Song. Kim Woo Bin’s agency gave a brief statement to Chosun.com on August 29, claiming that “he felt sorry for Song, often seeing his signboards searching for his missing daughter. Kim Woo Bin sent the wreath after hearing about Song’s death, hoping that he would rest in a better place.”
It was said that Kim Woo Bin personally arranged the wreath without his company finding out until they received queries. Song’s daughter had been missing since 1999, on the way to school. He has been driving his truck around in hopes of finding her, pasting her photo on the sides of his truck. His wife passed away in 2006 due to depression.
It is not the first time that Kim Woo Bin’s kind personality has been spotlighted. Previously, his fellow cast members raved about his wonderful character.
