Judith Schaechter’s Stained Glass Work Part of Major Survey

The stunning stained glass work of Judith Schaechter is the center of an upcoming exhibition at the Memorial Art Gallery at the University of Rochester, the first major survey of the artist’s 37-year career. “The Path to Paradise: Judith Schaechter’s Stained-Glass Art” arrives on February 16, 2020, and runs through May 24 at the space, then traveling to the Toledo Museum of Art and the Des Moines Art Center. Schaechter was last featured on our site here.

“From her start in the 1980s, Judith Schaechter has stretched the medium of stained glass into an incisive art form for the twenty-first century, boldly paving her path in the diverse arena of contemporary art,” the venue says. “With deep respect for history, a provocative rebelliousness, and a feminist sensibility, Schaechter has aptly been called a ‘post-punk stained-glass sorceress.’ Her meticulous and awe-inspiring stained-glass panels are intentional seductions, alternative visions of beauty, and radical statements of female experience.”

More than 40 of her panels are featured, alongside drawings and other process materials. See more of her work on her site and the Memorial Art Gallery’s page.
