There have been a few reboots of franchises with all-female leads, such as 2016’s Ghostbusters and 2018’s Ocean’s 8. Their very existence is controversial, from concerns over the lack of development typically given to creating female roles, to bad-faith and hostile backlash.
In a new interview with MTV, Jenna was asked how she would respond if Tim Burton called her with the idea for “Edith Scissorhands,” despite him previously saying he would “leave it alone.”
In response, Jenna said, “I love that there’s a lot more female leads nowadays, I think that’s so special, but we should have our own.”
“I don’t like it when it’s like a spinoff,” she continued. “I don’t want to see like ‘Jamie Bond.’ You know? I want to see another badass. Definitely leave it.”
Her words echo what Bond star Daniel Craig has said. “There should simply be better parts for women and actors of color,” he said in 2021. “Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a part just as good as James Bond, but for a woman?”
