Elena & Miko

Hearing Hearts

Written By Amet Xhelili with Illustrations by Roberta Bordone

Genre: Children’s Picture Book

Six-year-old Elena receives a sweet little tomcat for her birthday. He is 4 months old. She names him Miko. When her dad takes Miko to a cat hotel, Elena becomes very sad. She begs her dad to bring him back because she can feel how unhappy he is there. For Elena can hear the hearts of people and animals.

Children are still connected and have the natural ability to feel other hearts. This profound empathy and emotional intelligence is something wonderful, which we adults have mostly forgotten due to conditioning. We operate on the mental plane. In this story, 6-year-old Elena reminds her father that he, too, can hear hearts, and that this is the only path to joy and happiness.

Follow

Amet Xhelili, born in 1981 in Strimnica (North Macedonia), moved to Switzerland to join his father when he was 11 years old. He studied philosophy, psychology, and education, taught these subjects at high schools, and worked as a career counselor.

His wonderful daughter inspired and motivated him to write children’s books. After hearing a bedtime story, she said to him:

“Papa, you have to tell your stories to all children. They are so good!”

His heart beats for children. Everything he does is aimed at empowering children and helping people in general rediscover the wonder within themselves.

He loves writing, laughing, and dancing wildly. What he dislikes are strict rules and fondue.
