‘Inside Out’ – Review (2022)

Two singing voices, a ukulele and animation. A musical short which screens prior to the feature film. Two solitary volcanoes become companions at sea after longing for friendship, each looking for someone to ‘lava’-or affectionately love. The presentation features an original song and stunning visuals.

Inside Out has a running concept; the script depicts what takes places inside the mind of 11-year-old protagonist-Riley. Audiences meet the primary emotions through characters-Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust and Anger. Each can direct Riley’s emotional responses through a command center and archive memories.

Storytelling highlights reactions to obstacles within the internal world, which mirror the human characters. The contrast suggests a theme: its okay to express what’s truly inside.

Inside Out is a unique story with great visual effects, a solid family film-one of Disney Pixar’s best.
