“Inception” – My Song Review

Source: Google

Ateez, a popular South Korean boy band, released their new song called “Inception” on July 29, 2020.

Many fans were eagerly waiting for it to be released. Atinys(their fandom) had to vote either “Inception” or their other song, “Thanxx”, to be the title track. Obviously, “Inception” won. As an atiny myself, I’m just going to say that I did vote “Inception” and Ateez did not disappoint.

The meaning: The main point they’re singing/rapping about is love. They all are in love with someone and that love is addictive and even turns into obsession, longing for the day to see their love again. They never felt feelings like that before, so I believe it’s their first love. They first wanted to think of it all as a beautiful dream, but came to realize it’s too vivid to be one. Also, they add in that their feelings just happened randomly. They accidentally bumped into the person and that’s when it all started. Hint the name, “Inception”, it’s talking about the beginning of their love. They notice that the love they have is actually toxic, but they can’t do anything about it, so they just justify it by keep telling themselves that’s just how love works. Sadly, the effect that the person has left on them is too strong and they can’t go back to their past self and how things used to be. They feel trapped in a repeated dream. Even when they wake up every time, they still try to search for their love, who actually left them. Unfortunately, they can’t move on. And that dream isn’t one at all, but actually a nightmare which is their reality.

The Visuals:
The visuals of Ateez’s music videos are always amazing, but “Inception” is beyond the previous ones. It gives off different vibes that are more intense. Including many scenes that show the background being on fire. Which probably can relate to one part of the meaning being that they are trapped in a toxic place that’s really harming them. I love how the visuals are fitting the meaning so well. Including the boys all being in a deteriorated school building with rooms that look like they’ll collapse in any second. Which can be compared to their love that’s going to eventually be the end of them. Also notice how the beds they all are laying in are actually hospital beds and the rooms look like a nurse’s office. The uniforms they’re wearing adds to the school theme. I believe it gives off the expression that the boys are experiencing young love. I want to give points to the scene of the basketball court being on fire because it was wild. “Inception” kind of gives me “Fake Love”( a song by BTS) vibes. So there’s not really a surprise why I love it so much. Also Seonghwa lifted up his shirt to show off his abs just like the iconic scene that Jungkook had. Ateez are the only group after BTS that I liked having a music video with that concept. So, I have to applaud them on that.

The Choreography:
Okay, I just have to say that all Ateez’s choreography for their songs are engaging. Honestly, all their moves could be labeled as iconic. The way they dance is just very unique. I have to be honest, I never seen a group dance like them. The amount of smoothness they have performing is just mind blowing. Also I really have to compliment San. I’m still shocked of his position as lead vocalist. I believe he’s actually one of the best kpop dancers as well. The amount of energy he adds to the moves is just perfect. He also has the best facial expressions. When it comes to Ateez’s choreography, they never disappoint.

The Song: Now, this is my opinion. Ateez is one of the groups with the best discography. It had to be said. Every single song I listened to by them, has turned into my favorites. They don’t have one bad song. All of the raps are catchy and will be stuck on your mind 24/7. I thought the vocals of “Answer” were great. But, the vocals in “Inception” are immaculate. In “Answer”, Jongho’s vocals shined. That’s not a surprise from the main vocalist. But, the one who stood out in this comeback was Seonghwa. The high note he hit gave me chills. Also his vocals were just perfect. I believe this era is all his. The amount of lines and screen time he got made me very proud since he’s my bias. He finally got a chance to fully show how talented he is. I really love how you can feel their emotion when they are singing the lines. Like I said in the beginning about the effect Ateez’s songs have on me…”Inception” is definitely added on my favorites list. It’s a total bop and I’ve been jamming to it everyday, since it’s release. It’s definitely one of the best comebacks/songs of 2020.

In Conclusion: Everyone should definitely listen to “Inception”. But I must warn you..it’s very addictive. Once you watch one of their music videos. you’re going to want to view more. “Inception” is a very catchy song and like I said what happened to me with it being on my mind all the time…the same most likely is going to happen to you. But yes, please make sure to check out their other songs and energetic performances. And lastly, let’s look forward to their next comeback.
