‘I Don’t See No Fire’ – Mother’s Somber Warning to 15-Year-Old Coco Gauff for ‘Not Caring’ Enough During a Crucial Match

In an exclusive interview, Candi Gauff, the mother of the rising tennis star, Coco Gauff, shared her views on an old match of her daughter’s. Like all mothers, she was quick to call out her daughter for her weak shots, as she wanted her daughter to be more disciplined and motivated in her matches.

Candi Gauff hadn’t intended to raise a professional tennis player. But they recognized something unique in their eldest daughter. They lived in an Atlanta suburb, and Candi encouraged her daughter to try a variety of sports. Coco experimented with gymnastics, soccer, basketball like her father, and track relays like her mother.

2019 saw Coco Gauff and her parents spending a lot of time on the road. Candi Gauff was delighted to travel across the state and watch her daughter play. However, what she observed upset her. Coco lost 6-1, 6-1 to a player outside the top 300 in the first round of qualifying, her worst loss of the year.

In an interview, Candi Gauff was quoted“I don’t see no fire. I don’t see that you want to be out there.” Candi expressed her dissatisfaction with her daughter. Not that she lost, but she seemed careless. She assured Coco that it was fine if she didn’t want to play tennis.

Coco Gauff’s mother was once displeased with her attitude in a match

She also added, “But we sacrifice knowing you’re giving your best. And what I saw today was not your best.” Coco Gauff was prompted by her mother to reminisce about top athletes like Serena Williams. She was asked to consider how Williams continues to fight for every point and maintains her confidence even when she is down.

Gauff’s victory in the doubles lifts the US past Poland

At the most recent WTA season-ending championships in Texas, Gauff had a difficult time. Gauff expressed complete satisfaction with her year despite her problems in Texas. She, along with Cat McNally, recently helped the United States team win their round-robin opener in the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup.

The duo was victorious over the Polish duo of Magda Linette and Alicja Rosolska. Serving for the match’s winning point, McNally produced two magnificent drives. After winning in 47 minutes, the 18-year-old, Gauff, and 20-year-old, McNally celebrated with a flying body slam just like the Bryan brothers.
