The plight of the honey bee is something very important for nature and the eco-system. Only in the past few decades, the population of bees just in the U.S. has declined steadily 30% every year. If the bee life is numbered, our life is numbered too. Humans can not live without bees because bees are a vital part of nature and the eco-system.
Researchers understand what exactly is causing the decline, and 30% per year is a great loss of the bee for the large, global ecosystem. The bee plays a vital role in keeping the balance between other species and the environment, by regulating our food supply.
Some artists find bees very inspiring. Did you know that even ancient Egyptian tombs have a sculpture of a bee carved into a stone? And now, during the lockdown time, the UK organizes a bee artists competition. For all nature friendly artists, out here, The Bee Friendly Trust is organizing a competition for a bee sculpture to be displayed inside of the concourse of London Bridge Rail Station.
The sculpture should represent a honey bee /Apis mellifera and needs to be constructed from primarily recycled materials. The design should include the possibility of at least one moving part. Moving parts can be electric powered or not. Entry can be a two-dimensional drawing, computer graphics, three-dimensional maquette, or any combination. And there are young people’s categories, where entries should be in the form of a single A4 sheet of paper.
Very simple, let’s get on with work because this honey bee is friendly now, just as our eco-system is in danger!
The competition is open for international artists as well as the UK ones, there is no entry fee involved, the deadline is 1st of February 2021 and the commission is 200 pounds.
