Could HBO’s ‘Westworld’ get a Revival?

In the world of television, the definition of a successful program has changed dramatically. When network TV was popular, shows that were broadcast to a wide audience typically remained on air. Today, especially as streaming services develop, some popular shows get cancelled. The reason for this is unclear. As film and television analyst examine the root causes of this, it is safe to say that the audiences for programs on streaming services need to be higher than if the show was on network TV.

A few months ago, HBO announced that its sci-fi series Westworld would be cancelled after the completion of its fourth season. Fans created a Change.org petition and the website SaveWestworld.com.

The show’s fourth season was viewed by fewer streamers than its third, but still had a strong following. The fans were stunned when HBO announced the cancellation.

One interesting tab on the website is called “Unresolved Mysteries.” Even though show creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan wanted to resolve plot and character issues in the script during the fourth season, many fans still think there are new episodes necessary to tell the whole story.

Westworld explores the concept of artificial intelligence and how it shapes human morality. The futuristic series is based on the 1973 film of the same name directed by Michael Crichton.
