NEW YORK, NY – August 5, 2021 – The auction house Guernsey’s, in partnership with Connecticut’s Mystic Aquarium,will host an unprecedented Gala event and auction to raise funds to support the lives of five Beluga whales rescued from a Canadian attraction in June of 2021. The endangered species were transported aboard the U.S. Air Force C-130 Lockheed cargo plane to their new state-of-the-art home in the picturesque Long Island Sound. The auction will take place on August 19th, 2021, adjacent to the Aquarium’s beautiful whale enclosure.
At the Gala event there will be three principal lots to be auctioned, including the naming rights of three of the Beluga whales, an original bronze sculpture of a beluga whale created by wildlife artist, Dan Ostermiller, a plaque installation at the Arctic Coast habitat commemorating the auction inscribed with the successful bidder’s name, and a private meet-and-greet with the Belugas, once a year. Funds raised on the evening will go towards expenses incurred for the acquisition and transportation by Mystic Aquarium, and the maintenance of a proper and safe environment for the endangered whales.
Guernsey’s auction will also include beautiful vintage carousel Greyhound dogs and horse, several prominent bronze sculptures by noted Spanish sculptor Kieff Grediaga Bueno, original art and sculpture depicting animal life created by accomplished artists who are donating the proceeds to the ongoing care of the whales. Additionally, there will be a vintage-style Porsche and two new Vespa scooters up for grabs.
The Gala event at Mystic Aquarium will feature live music, food and beverage, among the exciting backdrop of the Beluga whale habitat and over 7,000 other marine animals, including penguins, seals, sea lions, and sharks.
Additionally, the aquarium will be holding a Beluga whale Raffle with tickets priced at $20, where one lucky winner will have the right to name one of the five whales. All proceeds will go towards the care of the animals and continued marine life research. More details on the raffle can be found here.
