The action movie genre continues to lead the box office in the United States. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is on track to have one of the strongest openings in franchise history.
The Next Chapter made its debut, earning $2.14M on its opening day. The final sales figures were below expectations; however, some analysts predict there will be an uptick over the Mother’s Day weekend. The first installment in the franchise, Book Club, debuted at $13.5M and grossed $68M in North America.
Last weekend, Guardians 3 had a significant showing at the box office with $118M, becoming the second biggest opening of the year. The film is expected to have a successful Mother’s Day weekend. Analysts predict the project will exceed $200M by Sunday.
