Grammy Awards 2021: Nominees and Performers

Grammy Awards

The Recording Academy has been flexible throughout the year in regards to its music industry ceremony in 2021. The show was originally supposed to air on Jan. 31; however, it needed to be rescheduled due to a rapid increase in the number of coronavirus cases in Los Angeles at the time. In less than two months, The Recording Academy has everything in places and is ready to launch its Grammy Awards 2021.

The Recording Academy released a lengthy list of performers for the show on their official Twitter page. The following artists will be sharing their talents at the Grammy Awards 2021: BTS, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Cardi B, DaBaby, Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch, Doja Cat, Bad Bunny, Harry Styles, Chris Martin Post Malone Dua Lipa, HAIM, Mickey Guyton, Brittany Howard, Maren Morris, John Mayer, Miranda Lamber and Black Pumas.

It is amazing that they chose Twitter to release such an extensive list, but the content has gone viral and many music fans who are waiting for the show now know who will be taking the stage.

High ratings for this show are expected as some of the musicians are trending on social media right now including BTS (both within the U.S. and around the world) and the music icon Taylor Swift.

While there are many performing acts for this year’s ceremony, only a select few will be chosen as nominations for awards. Beyonce leads the way with nine nominations. Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift and Roddy Ricch have six nominations each.

The 63rd Annual Grammy Awards will air 3/14 at 8pm/EST. The event will be hosted by “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah.

Early analysis of the nominations of the top artists will indicate that Beyonce will probably win a few Grammy Awards that night. She is nominated for song and record of the year with “Black Parade”, an album she released on Juneteenth (a holiday that reflects upon the significance of the freedom of slavery black people, particularly in the U.S. due to abolition). Megan Thee Stallion’s song “Savage”, which features Beyonce is nominated for record of the year, best rap song and best rap performance.

The Recording Academy has stated that albums released between Sept. 1, 2019 and Aug. 31, 2020 would be eligible to receive nominations at this year’s ceremony. Based on fans feedback, many are expecting Beyonce to win at least two awards, BTS their first Grammy, and Taylor Swift for Album of the Year with Folklore. I’ve written a review of “Betty” from Taylor’s album, it can be found here: Taylor Swift “Betty” Review
