Neil Gaiman has reportedly offered to step away from his role as showrunner on Good Omens Season 3 in the wake of various sexual assault allegations made against the author.
What is the latest Good Omens Season 3 update?
According to a report from Deadline, Gaiman has made an offer to Amazon, saying he would take a “back seat” on the new season to ensure it continues. Following pre-production on the series’ third season pausing and a planned adaptation of Gaiman’s book The Graveyard Book also being put on pause at Disney, Gaiman is hoping this move will let the Prime Video and BBC series continue.
Currently, it’s unclear exactly what the plan is for Good Omens Season 3, as the report notes that Amazon is considering the offer now. Season 3 of the series — which was planned to be its last — was originally set to begin filming sometime early next year, although it’s unclear now when any production will pick back up again.
Deadline also notes that Gaiman’s offer is not meant to be an admission of any wrongdoing. In July, the author was accused of sexual assault by multiple women that had previously been in consensual relationships with the man. More accusations also came in following the original claims — which came to light via a podcast series from Tortoise Media titled Master: the Allegations Against Neil Gaiman — were made, with Rolling Stone reporting that three more women had come forward with their own allegations of abuse against Gaiman.
Despite Gaiman’s reported offer to remove himself from Good Omens, the author maintains his innocence from any and all claims. His position since July has been that he is disturbed by the claims, and denies any of the allegations.
