Fantasy author George R.R. Martin has been in the news a lot lately as he was got in a controversy. But now, Martin updates fans on the Winds of Winter progress and fans will want to know this!
If you are like me, then you are also waiting for Martin to finish The Winds of Winter, book number six in A Song of Ice and Fire. It has been over a decade since the last novel and fans are eager to finally read this novel. But Martin has done everything but finish this novel for numerous reasons. And now we have the latest update from Martin about the novel and it is not good.
On his Not a Blog blog, Martin says that he has made little progress on the novel. He says that he “did produce some new pages on both THE WINDS OF WINTER (yes) and BLOOD & FIRE (the sequel to FIRE & BLOOD, the second part of my Targaryen history), I would have liked to turn out a lot more.”
There is a bit to digest there and honestly, as a fan, I am very frustrated with Martin. I understand the writer’s block but writing multiple books as well as working on shows is not smart. After a decade plus of doing this, you would think Martin would realize that he need to sit down and ONLY focus on The Winds of Winter. Unfortunately, that thought doesn’t seem to cross his mind.
Besides the horrible name flip for Blood and Fire, I am not happy about him working on that because it doesn’t feel important right now. He can always release this anytime and yet chooses to focus on it now. I’m sure the HBO TV Show doesn’t help but what did he think was going to happen when he works on multiple projects at the same time?
Martin himself says “My various television projects ate up most of those months,” and as a fan, that is not fun to read. At this rate, I do not think we will get The Winds of Winter until 2030.
Like many fans, I have come to terms that we might not get this novel for years. That sucks because this fantasy series is incredible and I wanted to see it come to a conclusion. Luckily, there are other amazing fantasy series to read and almost all of those books release on time.
