Film Review: ‘The Fanatic’

The Fanatic starring John Travolta is a real-life fiction drama about a man obsessed with celebrity

What would you do as a celebrity and you’re stalked by a fan who goes too far? Well, that’s exactly the plot in 2019’s horror-thriller fiction drama The Fanatic (rated R for strong language and violence) now streaming on Amazon Prime starring John Travolta who also produced the film. The film was directed by Limp Bizkit’s frontman Fred Durst who wrote the story and the screenplay along with Dave Bekerman. The story is based on real-life events that happened to Durst many years ago about a real-life fan pursuing him.

John Travolta does a fabulous job playing an obsessed fan named Moose who gets cheated out of meeting his favorite celebrity actor, Hunter Dunbar. He then hunts Dunbar down in pursuit of that long-awaited interaction he feels he’s entitled to. The meeting with Dunbar takes a wrong turn and goes south. It’s not the happy ending Moose had hoped for.

The film takes place in Hollywood and really shows the sleazy side of the town and the downside of showbiz. It’s not all glamourous and all it’s cracked up to be. The moral of the story is if you chase a dream be careful what you wish for!

This is one of the best films I’ve seen in a really long time! I highly recommend it to anyone obsessed with their favorite celebrity.
