“A California Christmas” (ESX Entertainment) is an amazing must-see film on Netflix to celebrate the holidays in a difficult year plagued by the pandemic. It stars real-life spouses Lauren and Josh Swickard who play the characters, Callie and Joseph. It also stars Amanda Detmer who plays Callie’s mother. The film was released on Netflix on December 14 of this year.
The plot is about a wealthy, charming, San Francisco hotel businessman named Joseph who is sent to a California farm to purchase it from the diligent farmer Callie. He poses as a farm worker until he finally admits the truth that he is trying to take over her farmland. They start out as archenemies but then turn into lovers. They weren’t supposed to get along, but strong chemistry ensued and is undeniable in real life and on-screen between the two and they became lovers when a Christmas miracle arrives when her deceased father’s wishes of turning the farm into a winery come true, and the farm is saved when they receive a large amount of money to fund the farm. Callie’s father was killed in a tragic car accident and left her and the rest of the family the barrels of wine meant for the winery. Her mother nearly died of cancer but survived. Lauren also wrote the screenplay and story for the film.
In California, there’s no snow, no reindeer. The wide terrain farmlands replace the reindeer with cows. And it gets funnier in the film when Joseph is getting tips from his associates to learn how to be an actual farmer!
How did Lauren meet Josh? they starred together in another Netflix film called, “Roped” in 2017 which was their first film. Sparks were flying between the two actors and they got engaged a few years later! There will be more to come as Netflix plans to have the couple star together again in more romance films!

According to Decider.com, Lauren Swickard began working as an extra on TV series like Sid Roth’s It’s Supernatural and Eastbound & Down, eventually starring as an extra in larger films like Iron Man 3. She’s become a Netflix regular to star in series like Social Path, Roommates, and Netflix’s Dear White People.
Josh Swickard began working on Disney Channel series like K.C. Undercover and Liv and Maddie. Now, he plays the recurring role of Harrison Chase on the famed soap General Hospital.
