Facebook Now Meta Plans to Shutter their Facial Recognition Software

The social media giant is shutting down their facial recognition software due to privacy concerns

Facebook/Meta is shuttering its decade-old facial recognition software after coming under fire of intrusion with employees and 1 billion users worldwide. Newsy/YouTube

Facebook, which is now known as Meta; is ceasing operations of their decade-old facial recognition software due to numerous violations of our civil liberties and privacy concerns of their employees and users this month; including deleting the face scan data targeting of over 1 billion users which triggered class-action lawsuits and regulatory woes. Does this mean the U.S. is turning into a globalist communist nation and China is the new superpower? We certainly hope not but that’s the way it’s turning out unless we fight and stand-up for our rights!

Last month, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced to change the “face” of Facebook and rebrand its operations as “Meta.” See my blog about it here.

According to The New York Times/Newsbreak App  Jerome Pesenti, Vice President of artificial intelligence at Meta, Facebook’s newly named parent company, said in a blog post-Tuesday that the social network was making the change because of “the many concerns about the place of facial recognition technology in society.” He added that the company still saw the software as a powerful tool, but “every new technology brings with it potential for both benefit and concern, and we want to find the right balance.”

Facebook only used their facial recognition software on their own site and did not sell their software to other companies.
