Empire City Casino is Ready to Expand

The Yonkers NY casino wants to include table games and other amenities

Business leaders in Yonkers, NY, and The Bronx are all behind on the ‘game plan’ to expand the Yonkers, NY-based Empire City Casino to include table games and other amenities. They have been trying to get a license to become a full-service Las Vegas-style casino for a while now since it was bought out two years ago by MGM Entertainment which is based in Las Vegas.

The casino already has video slot machines but no regular table games like blackjack and roulette. That move relies on Albany to regulate the change. The objective is to bring in more tax revenue for New York State. Governor Cuomo who usually holds the key is currently under fire for the nursing home scandal and for accusations of sexual harassment. It is still unclear how this will play out and who will be in charge of holding the reigns for the final approval.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano says in the CBS News video, “There is talk by the owners that there is going to be a convention center and a hotel there.”
