An American girl living in the city of love, Paris.
Vibrant, full of energy and stylish beyond belief are some of the words that come to mind when people describe Paris for the first time. Released on Netflix earlier this week is a new series based in Paris.
Emily in Paris is created by Darren Star, of Sex and the City fame, the series focuses on a young woman and her adventures in Paris, trying to learn the language and maintain some sort of work at a marketing firm.
Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) is from Chicago, works for a company as their social media manager, specializing in engagement through the various platforms. Due to her boss falling pregnant, Emily is offered the opportunity to relocate to Paris for a year and work with this Marketing firm, Savoir, and prepare the French firm to merge with the American buyer. What could go wrong?
Created by Darren Star, Emily in Paris, is a younger generations version of Sex and the City. A young woman is finding herself in a city that she loves, while indulging in her favorite things, food, clothes and men. There are moments in the series where you question where the story is going but at the end of the day it is just a light bit of fun that is entertaining and a lot of fun to watch.
There is a strong supporting cast including Ashley Park, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Lucas Bravo, Samuel Arnold and William Abadie. You might not recognize their names but you will definitely recognize the faces with Ashley Park recently starring in Mean Girls on Broadway and moving to Grand Horizons on Broadway before live performance was closed due to Covid-19.
Lily Collins as Emily Cooper oozes charm and innocence into the role. There is a sense of mid-western naivety that slowly evolves into a young woman who has a love for Paris and wishes to share it with everyone on social media.
This is a very cute and fun series that has an amazing wardrobe. Every episode Emily appears in some amazing outfit that has been accessorized to the nines, some times it is a little cliched, as her colleagues point out, but this is a romantic comedy series that is uplifting and makes you want to live in Paris.
You can see Emily in Paris has been influenced by Darren Star’s previous successes including hit series Younger. This series is a look at the younger generation that are discovering themselves, opening their eyes and exploring what the world has to offer them. Coincidently the series also makes a viewer reassess their career choices and what you want from the world. This is a series that is binge-worthy and will want to make you travel.
Emily in Paris is currently available on Netflix.
