It’s a sad day for lovers of famous soup dumplings and noodles: Din Tai Fung in Beijing has just announced it will be shuttering 14 of its locations in the capital and other Chinese cities as of Oct 31.
In a post on their official WeChat published at 1.15pm today (Aug 26) Beijing Hengtai Fung Catering Co., Ltd. has said the reason for the decision was due to the expiration of their business license and a failure by their board to reach a consensus on renewal.
You can read the full announcement (in English) here, in which all branches to close are listed.
Per the announcement, Beijing Din Tai Fung will be closing all of its Beijing locations (eight in total), plus a number of other locations in Tianjin, Qingdao, Xi’an, and Xiamen. As of press time, Din Tai Fung locations in other parts of China, including Shanghai, have not yet announced plans to close.
