Denzel Curry Recalls Awkward Issa Rae Encounter

Denzel Curry has recalled an awkward encounter with Issa Rae that offended him so much that he stopped watching her hit show Insecure.

The Florida rapper took to X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday (August 14) to share a random memory of the actress, writer and producer unintentionally insulting him.

“Met Issa Rae one time in 2018 she said she saw my video clout cobain then said it reminds [her] of insane clown posse,” he wrote. “I stopped watching insecure after that.”

Curry’s confession was met with a flood of crying face emojis, along with funny responses such as: “oh hell no that’s like saying insecure reminds me of sex in the city.”

Another fan offered a more serious reaction and lamented: “Some people can’t listen beyond the make up,” referencing the face paint worn by both Denzel in his “Clout Cobain” video and the Insane Clown Posse and their fans, who call themselves juggalos.

Though he may have been offended by Issa Rae’s comparison, Denzel Curry has previously admitted that his music isn’t for everybody.

Last month, Zel stopped by the Throwing Fits podcast and acknowledged that some of his older releases qualify as “scaring the hoes” music.

“I’m telling you right now, shit: I know what the fuck I was making,” he said. “I was just making shit from my heart and my heart was angry at the time. That’s what you got.”

Asked if he listens to his own music during sex, Curry responded with zero hesitation: “Fuck no! I don’t listen to no music when I fuck. If anything, the TV is playing in the background. It might be a Netflix asking me, ‘Are you still there?’ If you fucking to my music, you got some problems.”

Denzel was on the show to promote his new project, King of the Mischievous South Vol. 2, which was released in July and features A$AP Rocky, 2 Chainz and Juicy J, among others.

The 15-track project also boasts appearances from A$AP Ferg, Project Pat, Ty Dolla $ign, Ski Mask the Slump God, Maxo Kream, Kenny Mason and Armani White.

King of the Mischievous South, Vol. 2 serves as the sequel to Denzel Curry’s 2012 mixtape and his first full-length offering since 2022’s Melt My Eyez See Your Future.
