Demi Lovato

As one of the greatest young talents in the United States continues to get her life together, Demi Lovato, has done many things that are positive to turn her life around. The most notable change became apparent on her recent appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. When she came to the stage the audience and everyone watching at home noticed that she cut her hair and died it pink. She explained that she is going through a “letting go” process in her life and shortened her long hair has been one of the changes that has brought her joy and freedom. She stated on the show that she feels more “authentic” with her new hairstyle. She discovered that some of the disorders she has to live with were being hidden behind her long hair, and that she can reveal more of her positive attitude with people being able to see her expression with short hair; it is also a way for her to deal with mental health and body image issues that many people go through during their lifetime.

It is extremely important that she understands that many people have gone through what she has. There have been many young stars who have different types of disorders that have an impact on their careers. Knowing the truth that she is not alone in her struggles, is a good way to feel more comfortable about trying to improve her physical and mental health. Her recent appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show proves that to be true. Rather than wallow in depression and anxiety, Lovato was brave and discussed her journey on one of the most watched shows in daytime television. The Ellen DeGeneres Show is the perfect place for her to share her ideas and experience. DeGeneres and her show have a warmth and kindness to it that seems to make it easy for her guest to share whatever kind of information they deem to be important: sometimes her guest is there to promote their new projects, or are there to showcase to the world their new ambitions in their lives. Lovato making the decision to appear on the show was certainly a good one.

Lovato says she is feeling “more like herself” these days, which is a positive sign. She was also on the show to promote her new documentary: Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil. While the title may have an overly serious connotation, she wanted one that would grab audience’s attention in the same ways as her previous two documentaries.

“I feel more authentic to who I am and I also feel like I used to hide behind my hair,” Lovato said on air. “I’ve talked a lot about my past, being in recovery from an eating disorder, and I used to use my hair to hide behind.”

“It would cover my body,” she added. “When I started doing all this work on myself, I thought, ‘What is something that I have been holding onto my whole life that I need to let go of?’ It was that.”

The most poignant part of the show is when Lovato discusses how mental health and addiction can impacts people’s lives. “We live in a time when nobody’s perfect and we’re not going to get role models by watching people not make mistakes,” Lovato told DeGeneres. “We’re going to meet and learn from our role models who have overcome their deepest, darkest struggles.”
