Dava ‘Fool’ Song Review

Dava is a pop singer shrouded in mystery. She released several singles from 2020-2023; however, there is very little information available online about this artist. Who is Dava? What kind of music does she make? Could she be a future pop superstar in the music industry? Fans of her music are constantly thinking about these kinds of questions.

Let’s start with what we do know about the artist. Dava is an American singer/songwriter who is signed to Disruptor Records. She released her first single “ASOS” in 2020. She grew up in Oklahoma and Texas; at the age of 18 she lived briefly in Colorado before bringing her talents to Los Angeles. She creates pop music with highlights of neo-soul and R&B.

She released “Fool” on January 6th, 2023. The song has been published on a variety of music websites, streaming services and iTunes Store. The song samples the chorus of “Lovefool” by the The Cardigans.  Dava’s “Fool” is about seeing through the façade that covers romance.

Lyrics

Love me, love me, say that you love me
Fool me, fool me, go on and fool me
Love me, love me, pretend that you love me
Leave me, leave me, just say you need me

The creation of a façade in which your love interest says that he or she loves you, but does not have authentic feelings. The character has had enough and now expects the love interest to mask true emotions. The character understands what is taking place and knows that the love interest really needs the connection to sustain life.

Cold, you’re emotionally vacant
Choke on the things I just said before
I don’t, when your feet don’t hit the pavement
I can’t stop you now

The love interest is now out of control and emotionally distant. Things are beyond repair and the only thing that’s left is to ponder the words that were said in order to learn something about what occurred during the relationship and how to move forward.

Head spinnin’ and your heart’s not in it
And it feel like it’s the bottom of the bottle when we’re kissin’, uh
Never knew there was a feeling I was missing
You tore up my heart and watch me bleed at the kitchen, uh
So, I crawled and I begged for you to

The song’s character is experiencing heart break, but also seems to demand of the distant lover to acknowledge how much he or she needs the singer who refuses to become a “fool.”

Dava’s voice sounds excellent on a track that has pop elements as well as R&B and hip-hop.

Performance

The performance of the song is a bit of a mystery. It will be interesting to see if Dava chooses to release a music video for “Fool” or decide to debut another song. “Fool” has gained some traction and right now is probably one of her best songs, it’s very likely she will perform it live going forward.
