Rising pop star Juliana Hale has just dropped her new single, “Cry My Summer Away,” on August 2nd, and it is definitely going to be this season’s anthem. This upbeat, guitar-laced track is all about not letting a breakup rain on your summer parade.
Co-written by Juliana Hale with Dan Smith and Mike Cortes, produced by Dan Smith, “Cry My Summer Away” is the quintessential summer song. For her part in the song, Juliana has taken inspiration from personal experience when a seemingly perfect relationship on the surface really wasn’t all that great. It starts off with melancholy and introspective lines, such as, “So what, you’ve got a face like you’re James Dean / You got an ugly heart / All the promises fade and they’re long gone / I know who you are.” However, it very quickly becomes about optimism and moving on: “Did you think I would cry my summer away / Thinking ’bout the lies and the mess that you made / I’d rather let the sun dry the tears on my face / Yeah, I’m not gonna cry my summer away.”

It’s a great addition to any playlist featuring tracks like “Espresso” and “Please, Please, Please” by Sabrina Carpenter. This song is all about letting go of a shallow relationship and choosing joy instead. “Cry My Summer Away” is meant for anyone who wants to look at the bright side of everything and proceed ahead in life with a smile. With this new single, Hale flexes her bold artistry once again-which she can make a lasting memory with listeners-but still manages to keep an edge of optimism that keeps her so likable. “Cry My Summer Away” is available on SoundCloud now.
