Reggaeton superstar, Daddy Yankee, announced he’s retiring after 32 years in the music industry.
“This race, which has been a marathon, finally sees the finish line. Now, I am going to enjoy what all of you have given me,” he said in a statement via YouTube. “People say that I made this genre worldwide, but it was you who gave me the key to open the doors to make it the biggest in the world.”
Yankee is releasing one final album entitled Legendaddy, set to release on March 24. He will go on one final tour to promote the album.
“I’ll give you all the styles that have defined me on one album. ‘Legendaddy’—it’s fight, it’s party, it’s war, it’s romance,” he explained.
The artist is most known for his hit single “Gasolina,” which many music critics suggest made the reggaeton genre more popular on top 40 radio stations.
In addition to the stellar radio play, Yankee has sold more than 30 million records throughout his career.
Yankee’s final tour, La Ultima Vuelta World Tour, begins on Aug. 10 and runs through December 2022.
