Crowned Crows of Thorne Point (Crowned Crows, #1). ⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Books Best Blog

Crowned Crows of Thorne Point by Veronica Eden

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

To get an audience, you have to give up something. A secret, a favor . . . something that hurts. Welcome to Thorne Point, where darkness rules.

Rowan

I enrolled at Thorne Point University to be closer to my brother. Now my world is falling apart. Ethan is missing. Every day I can’t find him it plays on repeat. The search for answers turns up nothing and I’m running out of options. But there’s a rumor on campus. And I’m desperate enough to seek out the Crows as my last resort. Wren Thorne’s reputation precedes him, but I won’t take no for an answer.

Wren

The night belongs to us. We run this town. Wear the rumors like crowns. But after losing the most important thing to me, my brothers are all I have left. Our bond runs deeper than blood. When Rowan comes looking for our help, I do one thing I shouldn’ break all my rules. She asked for monsters? I’ll show her one.

Crowned Crows of Thorne Point

Definitely gets better toward the end!

The heroine: Rowan – she is a senior and a journalism major at Thorne Point University. She decided to go to school there because that is the school her big brother attended, and he has an apartment near the school. They lived together since she was a freshman, he had already graduated and was a freelance journalist. He left a few months ago to chase a story, and said he would be back in a few weeks, but he hasn’t returned, and the police haven’t helped her at all in trying to find him.

The Hero: Wren Thorne – He and his three best friends are known as the Crowned Crows of Thorne Point. They run the night at Thorne Point. They have a bunch of underground revenue streams including underground fights, underground casinos in all of the six elite colleges in the area and they also have the Crows Nest. The turn of the century hotel that they have turned into a nightclub that is open on the weekends. They are known as the guys who can get things done and they trade in secrets. Wren is the de facto leader of the Crowned Crows.

The Story: Rowan needs to find her brother and has nowhere else to go, so she goes to the Crowned Crows to see if they can help her. They agree, and ask her for her deepest darkest secret, and though she has a secret that has haunted her for years, since her father died, she tells them she is an open book. Wren can see that she is holding something back but agrees to help her in exchange for a favor.

I love these types of New Adult books where the Heroes are either bullies at the start or like this one, where they hold a lot of power. However, what has been becoming a big pet peeve about these stories for me is that they all seem to be wealthy boys who have daddy issues. They all seem to have powerful fathers who want to run their lives. The fathers want to groom them to take over for them and won’t take no for an answer. Of course, they don’t care at all what their sons actually want to do with their lives, they just want what they built to continue on as their legacy. I am just over the overbearing wealthy father trope.

This audiobook was told in multiple points of view via duet narration and was narrated by Jay Alder and Meg Sylvan. I like Meg Sylvan, she has a soft, quiet, feminine voice which is very pleasant to listen to. Though I was not a fan of Jay Alder. First of all, he sounds too old for the characters. He is also voicing all four of the crows and he doesn’t really do well at having different voices for different characters. He has his normal voice which he uses for Wren, and basically a yelling voice which he uses for all of the other guys. So, it sounds like someone in the background is yelling to be hears. I am not really looking forward to the fact that he also narrates the next book.
