Cordae, Anderson .Paak and J. Cole have hooked up for a new song called “Summer Drop,” which will appear on the former YBN star’s upcoming album The Crossroads.

Cordae and .Paak have previously teased a collaborative project together, but for now fans just have this new track which boasts production from Cole.

“Summer Drop” has a laidback, funky vibe befitting of its title, along with a certain amount of ’90s nostalgia.

The lyrics also see Cordae reflecting on summers past: “I saved up the whole summer, that’s how I got school clothes / I bought some Pumas and some fake chains, that was fool’s gold.”

.Paak takes the opening verse with a similar feel: “Remember when summer dropped, we was at unclе’s spot / Three n-ggas with nothin’ to do but wrestle or slap box.”

The trio first all collaborated last year on “Two Tens,” with J. Cole again on producing duties.

Following the success of the song, Cordae teased more music from himself, Anderson .Paak and Cole in an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe.

“You know what’s funny? We literally got a mixtape full of joints with me and .Paak,” he said. “Yeah, we literally got a mixtape full of joints of me and .Paak on. Well, we got an EP full of joints with me, .Paak and Cole beats.

“[.Paak] is really like my real friend, like my brother. Other artists be like, ‘Oh, that’s my brother,’ or, ‘Oh, that’s my man.’ And saying that shit just to sound cool.”

He continued: “I don’t really have too many friends, to be honest. He’s one of my real life, genuine friends. You know what I’m saying? And so I say that to say, that’s where it comes from, bro. Just because we just be kicking it, and we just be recording. Kicking it and recording.

“It won’t be like, ‘Yo, let’s just put this out next week.’ It’ll be like, ‘Yo, this song is a couple years old.’ You know what I’m saying? So I just always, I’m like man, I’m going to just hold on to this. And when the time, it feels right, it feels right. You know?”

While it’s unclear if a collaborative between the trio will ever come out, Cordae recently confirmed that The Crossroads is on the way with a cinematic trailer shared on social media.

The album is also expected to include the Lil Wayne-assisted “Saturday Mornings,” while collaborations with Hit-Boy, Pharrell and G Herbo are also rumored to make the cut.
