Emanuel Seitz is a German-born artist (1973). He is largely influenced by 1980s art and Neo-Expressionism. His artworks are mostly exhibited in GermanySpainAustria, and several other countries.

Untitled (2020) is colorful stripes on canvas. It is so calm and relaxing. By bringing abstract images, this painting ignites all kinds of emotions and interpretations, just as poetry. Here, it reminds me of Simonides’s words: “Painting is mute poetry, poetry a speaking picture”.

Some Modernist art critics, who become the defender of abstract art, certainly refuse the judgment that equates painting with poetry. For them, abstract art must break away from the language in order to be ‘pure’ visual. However, can we really separate visual from verbal representation, while we always look at a picture based on our cultural backgrounds, experiences, and certain assumptions?

For Seitz, this picture is not only a painting, but it is also a journey. In an interview with Galerie Christine Mayer, he told: “You practically walk along with the painting, and I determine the length of the journey in advance through the format”. Like endless lines, Seitz considers the painting as entirely always in process.

Emanuel Seitz’s artworks are on view at Galerie Christine Mayer, München, Germany, until April 10, 2021. Private viewing is possible by appointment.
