Representation matters, and Chrissy Teigen got to see that firsthand when her eight-year-old daughter, Luna, met Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris at the White House this summer.
“I’m still glowing from this moment when my Luna (in her adorable mini power suit) met VP Harris at the White House this past June,” Teigen captioned an Instagram photo on Tuesday (Aug. 27), in which Luna is seen rocking a pink tweed jacket-and-skirt set as she smiles up at Harris, who is facing away from the camera. “It’s a powerful reminder of what can happen when young girls are able to see themselves in the person who holds the highest office in the land. And my favorite part? Tearing up with the knowledge that this will be a photo Luna will look back on forever.”
Both Luna and Harris are half Asian, half Black. Harris’ mother is Indian and her father is Jamaican. Teigen is half Taiwainese and half Norwegian, while her husband and Luna’s father, John Legend, is African American.
Teigen continued that watching Harris at the Democratic National Convention last week was “inspiring,” adding, “From maternal and reproductive rights, to the economy (which she accurately highlights as a women’s issue), gun violence legislation, and affordable education, her dedication and vision gives me so much HOPE for the future.”
The Cravings author concluded, “Kamala isn’t just the kind of role model I want for Luna, she’s also exactly the leader we all need right now. Now let’s go DO SOMETHING!”
See the post here. Teigen shares Luna, six-year-old Miles, one-year-old Esti and one-year-old Wren with Legend, who performed on night three of the DNC on Aug. 21. Joined by Sheila E., he paid tribute to Prince by singing “Let’s Go Crazy” from the late icon’s 1984 album Purple Rain.
