Charlie Watts, the legendary famous drummer of the world’s greatest rock band, The Rolling Stones passed away today August 24.

The rocker was described as a ‘cherished husband’ and one of the greatest drummers of his generation in rock and roll. He was born on June 2, 1941.

The Rolling Stones are known for their extensive discography with their greatest hits, “Miss You” “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” “Hang Fire” “Between a Rock and a Hard Place” “It’s Only Rock and Roll” etc.

Watts had surgery and was recovering from it and was forced to pull out of the band’s ‘No Filter‘ tour but he sadly passed away. He was 80 years old. His publicist wouldn’t confirm his cause of death. Elton John was devastated and knew him for years. Here are Elton’s sentiments in his Tweet:

Here’s the YoutTube video of his passing:

“It is with immense sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Charlie Watts.” He passed away peacefully in a London hospital today surrounded by his family.” -The Rolling Stones

According to The Mirror UK Watts’s moderate use of alcohol and drug use had become problematic in the 1980s.  He stopped after nearly losing his wife over his behavior. He was said to be at odds with his bandmates. At one point in the 1980s, singer Mick Jagger phoned his hotel room in the middle of the night demanding, “Where’s my drummer?” Charlie got out of bed dressed and shaved in a dapper suit and is said to have punched Jagger in the face before telling him, “Don’t ever call me your drummer again. You’re my f***ing singer!”

It’s a sad day. RIP. Watts is survived by his wife Shirley, one daughter Seraphina and a newborn granddaughter, Charlotte.

He will be missed by his Rolling Stones bandmates and fans.
