Challengers’ Mike Faist has been cast in Netflix’s East of Eden series.
East of Eden is a new series that was reported to be in development in June 2022. Based on the John Steinbeck book of the same name, the limited series stars Florence Pugh as Cathy.
Now, per Variety, Netflix has officially given the limited series a seven-episode order. Faist has been cast as Charles in East of Eden, while Christopher Abbott will play Adam, and Hoon Lee will play Lee.
The series explores “the multigenerational saga of the Trask family, focusing new attention on its indelible antihero, Cathy Ames,” per the description.
What else do we know about Netflix’s East of Eden?
East of Eden is written by Zoe Kazan, who also serves as an executive producer and co-showrunner. Jeb Stuart also serves as co-showrunner and executive producer, while Garth Davis directs the first four episodes and Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre directs the last three.
Davis, Antoine Douiahy, and Zack Hayden also serve as executive producers, while Fifth Season and Anonymous Content co-produce.
“Zoe’s thoughtful and artistic vision pays homage to her grandfather’s revered film adaptation while beautifully honoring and introducing new audiences to a true canon of American literature,” said Netflix’s Peter Friedlander. “She is an inspiring, creative force and we can not wait for everyone to see what she and Jeb, alongside the brilliant cast led by Florence Pugh, bring to screen.”
Kazan added, “In the process of bringing this family saga to life, the resonance of my own familial connection to the material has not been lost on me. But it is Steinbeck’s writing–personal, shocking, profound and free –that has kept me enthralled to East of Eden since I first read the book as a young teen. Working on this has been the greatest joy, and I am thrilled by the cast and crew we are assembling – and deeply grateful to Netflix, Fifth Season & Anonymous Content for their support.”
A release date for East of Eden has not yet been announced.
