Margot Robbie has landed another solid role on the big screen. With so many successful hits like Focus, Suicide Squad and The Wolf of Wallstreet, Robbie has become the new Hollywood “it girl.” In her latest film, she will play the character of Barbie in a comedy/fantasy movie based on the popular American doll.
The film is set to release in the summer of 2023. The first teaser trailer that released this week shows impressions of the cinematography. The trailer puts different environments on display. Initially, you see real-life children playing with their baby dolls. However, for the first time ever they will be introduced to a new doll that is an adult-Barbie. When Barbie appears she is extremely tall and realistic. The Barbie doll is an innovation for these young children because at this point in their lives they have never seen anything like her before.
The ending of the trailer provides a first look at how the Barbie dreamworld will look in the film. It is enchanting, colorful and filled with many interesting characters. As we learn more about the movie, we’ll discover how the real world and dreamworld will function throughout the screenplay and in the completed project.
I think Robbie is the perfect casting choice to play the Barbie character. She has a broad range as an actress. I’ve seen her play both comedic and dramatic roles excellently. It would be engaging if the director can find a way for Robbie to express her different emotions within Barbie and refrain from making the dreamworld seem like perfection without any obstacles. Ultimately, Barbie is going to have obstacles like any other film and it will be intriguing to see what information will become available in the months leading to next summer.
