Avatar: The Way of Water reached $1B at the global box office in just 14 days, making it the fastest movie to achieve this milestone in 2022.
Two other films surpassed the $1B mark this year: Top Gun: Maverick (in 31 days) and Jurassic World Dominion (in four months). Only six movies in history have achieved this in its first two weeks in theaters.
Yahoo News confirmed the budget for the Avatar sequel was approximately $450M and it needs to generate $2B in order to break even. It will likely surpass this goal in an additional two or three weeks. The original Avatar was released in 2009 and has the world record of highest-grossing release in history with $2.97B worldwide.
