Artscape Gibraltar Point is the organization that offers 35,000 square feet of a retreat space, artist studios, and accommodations for artists. Located in the former Toronto Island Public and Natural Science School, the tranquil, idyllic setting is a center for members of the artistic and non-profit communities to think, experiment, and share ideas. Seen as the globe experiment to create art via self-directed artist retreats and thematic residencies, Artscape hosted many artists before. In addition to hosting a maximum of 20 visiting artists at any given resident time, with fifteen long-term artist work studios that provide space for a range of painters, sculptors, musicians, filmmakers, along with a recording studio in one residence time.
Artscape Gibraltar Point is a nonprofit urban development organization that makes space for creativity and transforms communities and is operated by Artscape Gibraltar Point. It is a creative people community together in real estate projects that serve the needs of the arts and cultural community also as a private development interest, community, and art-generated aspirations. And, it is also a philanthropic mission.
Artscape Gibraltar Point calls for a two-week residency „Luminous Body“ and looks for the artists in order to create artworks that shed new light on the human body, with the objective to explore “normativity” and „otherness“ in order to reinvent the human body in most inclusive and diverse ways. The essence of Luminous Bodies is about bringing to light heterogeneous bodies. It includes a creative journey of critical innovation and self-discovery. It is welcoming people with disabilities, BIPOC, and people of diverse genders, different ages etc…
Luminos Body Art Residency includes resident artist talks, gallery tours, visual and textual references, guest artist talks, art critiques etc…that helps uncover human bodies culturally and aesthetically constructed, artistically displayed, and controlled. Residents work individually or collaboratively and create artworks that reinvent the body through media of choice, photography, video, installation, drawing, painting, performance, installation, sound art, movement art, media art, etc. The residence includes a closing exhibition of artworks created during the residency. A luminous body re-events just perfect today and is a very vivid art inspiration. Just to think, according to Hindi culture there are stars and moon to be a luminous body as in reality are not stars, but the lights into which those men have been metamorphosed who have received an eternal reward from God and reside in the height of heaven on thrones of crystal. Luminous can be seen very differently in modern culture.

The email should include a 200-word statement about your overall practice, a 200-word proposal describing the work you intend to explore, bio, up to 5 images or video/sound clips that are most related to the work you propose during the residency, and a link to your website or portfolio; your CV, your sleeping accommodation preference etc…
