Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Review

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been out for about a year now, but it is important to highlight the success of the most recent game in the franchise. Animal Crossing rose to fame due to its popularity on Nintendo’s DS line of portable gaming machines.

The prospect of putting the game on the TV screen or have new handheld experiences was enough to generate interest from many people who are fans of the franchise from around the world. Now that the game is here there have been many positive reviews, it appears that fans were given the majority of what they were asking for with this latest project. Animal Crossing: New Horizons does not disappoint and provides a lot of value within the game, which leads to fans willingly putting hours into the gameplay and enjoying every moment.

There are many different types of players in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. For Collectors there are a plethora of different species of animals to collect. For The Designer, there are many customizable tools. For The Artists, The Decorators and The Dreamers there is an entire island with customizable features for gamers to enjoy.

In order to enjoy all of the features of the game, players must start out at a slow pace. Within the latest installment of Animal Crossing, Nintendo made sure that gamers had a story to follow and objectives to learn before diving into the main gameplay. That way gamers will not feel overwhelmed as they are learning about new animals and items. Some critics think that the game starts out too slowly, but it is actually a great way to ensure that gamers are connected to a story and are not just playing the game at random.

In the beginning, two brave villagers and an industrious racoon family are the island’s only residents. In the first hours of gameplay, the island is inhabited by the player and gets slowly more populous with trees, water, rocks, new buildings and animal villagers. After players take part in building the community there are many fun spaces that are created as well: a museum, shopping center, and access to secret areas.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons, like previous games in the franchise, uses the Nintendo Switch’s real time clock. This means that many goals are stored behind a “sleep wall.” According to IGN, it is similar to the paywall found in some mobile games, which requires the gamer to pay for upgrades within the game.

It’s amazing what the element of time can do for this game. When gamers complete an objective like building a new bridge, the gamer will be able to observe their masterpiece the following day in the daylight rather than at the moment of completion. The element of time gives Animal Crossing: New Horizons a fun way to experience the gameplay.

For the gaming community, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a different thing depending on the outlook of the player. It can be viewed as an open world RPG, or real time action/adventure game. It is safe to assert that the game is all of those things. For gamers who enjoy the process of collecting items and building projects, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is an excellent game for them to play.
