‘And Just Like That’ starts shooting in New York City

Sex and the City fans rejoiced this week as filming started for the reboot And Just Like That. Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis are back but are minus Kim Cattrall, as HBO Max explained “Just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave. Friendships fade, and new friendships start. So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life.”

Here is what we know about the series. It will start with ten episodes on HBO Max. Chris Noth, Mario Cantone, David Eigenberg and Willie Garson return to the beloved series reprising their roles and will be joined by Sara Ramirez.

The reboot will revolve around characters Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbs and Charlotte York and will focus on the complexity of life and friendship of independent women in the 50s.

Apart from notable absentee Kim Catrall, Lynn Cohen who played Magda and Anne Meara who played Mary Brady has recently passed will also be missing from the reboot.

Much hype was created earlier this week when a picture featuring Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis appeared online with the trio striking a pose in Manhattan’s Midtown, just down from Columbus Circle, near Central Park and the corner of Central Park West and Central Park South.

Creators Michael Patrick King and will be joined by Samantha Irby, Rachna Fruchbom, Keli Goff, Julie Rottenberg and Elisa Zurisky, from the original series and films.

And Just Like That has been a long time in the making. There were rumors a number of years ago that cast and creators had come up with the perfect script for a final movie. But this was quickly quashed when Kim Catrall brought about a very public feud on social media with her cast pointing that she had felt alienated and alone on the set, in particular pointing this directly at Sarah Jessica Parker.

Kim Catrall has since come forward on a number of interviews indicating that she has moved on creatively from the role of Samatha Jones and she would love to see the role played by a person of color or another actress entirely, which lead to rumors of Sharon Stone potentially taking on the role.

Sex and the City was a hugely successful series and equally as successful film, even the second Sex and the City movie was a huge box office profit maker even with its questionable script.

And Just like That is coming at the perfect time, people need a comfort and Sex and the City was a comfort for many people in the 20s and 30s and now with the new series well under way, it will provide a comfort for a new audience and many of the original fans who are now well into their 40s and 50s.

HBO Max is yet to confirm a release date for And Just Like That, but whatever the outcome of the new series, it will already be a huge success.
