American Theatre is proud to be the venue for Theatrical Mustang, an independently produced podcast from actor-writer-activist Woodzick. Each month they bring listeners interviews with unbridled talent and cultural trailblazers from across the country.
On this month’s episode, Woodzick talks with multi-hyphenate theatre artist and musician Han Van Sciver. They discuss Virginia Woolf’s Orlando, Else Went’s An Oxford Man, and Han’s experience playing Leigh, a non-binary character, in the world premiere of At the Wedding at Lincoln Center. Han hopes to see more roles for trans actors that don’t just focus on gender identity. They are currently working on a musical adaptation of the Narcissus myth as well as a web series called Sad Han.
Han’s other acting credits include the title role in Sarah Ruhl’s Orlando at Williamstown Theatre Festival and MJ Kaufman’s Galatea in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Recently, they starred in Roger Q Mason’s Hide and Hide in the inaugural Breaking the Binary Festival, in Else Went’s An Oxford Man in Manhattan Theater Club’s Ted Snowden reading series, and in the Revelation Reading of Kit Marlowe with Red Bull/TFANA. Their full-length play, DRAGON, was recently developed with New York Theatre Workshop, and their performance piece Happy Birthday Han had its New York premiere in JACK’s 2022 Radical Acts Festival. Their next project will be Gay Narcissus with Die-Cast.
In the space between recording and producing this episode, Han’s father, Harry Benjamin Van Sciver passed away unexpectedly. This episode is dedicated to him.
