As a child star, Amanda Bynes was a stellar comedic actress. She appeared on Nickelodeon sketch comedies All That and The Amanda Show. She also appeared on the WB sitcom What I Like About You. She is well-known for her film credit in 2010’s Easy A.

However, at the age of 28, Bynes was placed under a conservatorship by her parents as a way of protecting her financial interests as she was demonstrating erratic behavior that threatened her career and her “well-being” (according to entertainment analyst, the parents and Bynes’ attorney).

The intervention her parents endured may have been forced but had some level of rationale as the actress would later disclose that she was diagnosed bipolar and manic depressive; some think it was a good idea for the parents to step in while Bynes was doing everything she could to improve her mental health. Now at the age of 36, a Southern California judge ruled that Bynes can now handle her own priorities.

According to NPR, Bynes has been working on herself for years and now “all of her hard work has come to fruition.”

“Amanda’s conservatorship was a collaborative effort with her parents. There was no fighting between her and her mother or father. Everyone was working together, including Amanda” the news outlet reported.

By all accounts, this is a positive news story. Bynes is not the only person in the entertainment industry whom has experienced mental health issues. By her taking the time to improve her mental health and other areas of her life, she is now afforded the opportunity to live independently and to continue pursuing her dreams. When you look at her story juxtaposed against Britney Spears’ conservatorship battle, it is the complete opposite. Bynes is extraordinarily talented, she is a natural comedic actress. Now that things are starting to align, it would be even more of a success story if she is able to continue her work and making people laugh, which she has done her entire career.
