Adam Lambert ‘Getting Older’ Song Review

If the creation of music started with a blank canvas as does visual art, vocals and lyrics would essentially be the brushstrokes of a paintbrush. Adam Lambert’s latest single entitled “Getting Older” has many musical features which makes the song memorable. The production sounds excellent and the lyrics are well-written. The song tells a humanizing story of which many listeners may draw empathy. When listening to the track, it is incredible imagining yourself in the singer’ s shoes in order to discover how you may feel about what the song’s character has experienced in life.

“Getting Older” is a glam rock version of Billie Eilish’s original track. It is the latest single release after “Mad About The Boy,” “Ordinary World,” and “Holding Out for a Hero” on his upcoming album High Drama-which is set for a February release.

Lyrics

I’m getting older
I think I’m aging well
I wish someone had told me
I’d be doing this by myself
There’s reasons
That I’m thankful
There’s a lot I’m grateful for
But it’s different
When a stranger’s always waiting
At your door

In a perfect world, we would draw closer to each other as we advance in age. However, throughout life there is heartbreak and disappointment. There will also be good times along the way, but they can become overshadowed by things in life that are difficult. These lyrics suggests that the character’s humility is growing as he ages, which is the direction and mindset everyone should adopt throughout life.

Last week
I realized I crave pity
When I retell a story
I make everything sound worse
Can’t shake the feeling
That I’m just bad at healing
And maybe that’s the reason
Every sentence sounds rehearsed

When you’re in a difficult head space, every thought and emotion may be something negative and you try with all your fervor to adjust the trend. Sometimes when we get too far on the deep end, we end up not telling others the truth about how we feel, but instead use language based in self-pity. Sometimes people give good feedback and other times the pity just makes things worse for the character. The lyrics depict an accurate portrayal of someone spiraling in a direction they drastically want to change.

Things I once enjoyed
Just keep me employed now
Things I’m longing for
Someday, I’ll be bored of
It’s so weird
That we care so much
Until we don’t

One of the most striking parts of the songs is “that we care so much until we don’t.” It really makes you think about relationships and what’s important in life. We all go through periods in which we love someone else, and often times we will open hearts and pour out our love, only to discover that the people we thought loved us are no longer around. It isn’t mundane to realize that someone who you love so much could somehow, someday became indifferent or worse. Is life truly about loving others until either you or the some person can’t anymore? Is this something that we’re destined to experience time and time again? The answer is either yes or no, but what is true is that we have the ability to change directions in life and hopefully for the better.
