Pretend Girlfriend: A Reverse Harem Romance by Cassie Cole

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fake relationship. Real adventure.

I’ve never been someone’s fake girlfriend before.
It was easy… at first.
But then I put my foot in my mouth and turned this charade into a week-long affair.
Which means going on the family honeymoon… to Jamaica.

Making matters worse, I kind of have a history with Theo, the best man.
As in, we totally hooked up right before all of this.
Avoiding his knowing smiles all week isn’t going to be easy.

Complicating matters is Austin, the bride’s ex.
He found out I’m faking my relationship with Landon.
Now he’s blackmailing
If I don’t torpedo the wedding, he’s going to tell everyone the truth.

Juggling the demands of these three men is putting a serious damper on the honeymoon.
Especially as everything begins to unravel.
Can I keep it all together and survive this fake relationship?
Or will it blow up in all of our faces?

Pretend Girlfriend

So good!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: ☺️😊😁😉🥰

The heroine: Joanna – she is a paralegal, though she passed the bar exam. She currently works for an ambulance chaser and has been trying to get a job at DefTec (Defense Technologies) for a while now and they turned her down for the three jobs she has applied for. When her brother comes to her asking her for a favor, she immediately turns him down. He wants her to go to a family dinner with his friend Landon as his fake girlfriend. Though when her brother tells her that Landon is the in-house counsel for DefTec, she agrees.

The Heroes:
Landon – his family likes to fix him up, since he recently got out of a long-standing relationship. When his brother Bradyn’s wedding is on horizon, he decides to preemptively prepare by bringing a fake girlfriend to a family dinner so he can get away with going to the wedding solo.
Theo – he meets Joanna through a dating app, and he is much more muscular and handsome than the picture he posts on the site (the opposite of most guys). He also downplays his profession and has a terrific sense of humor. He also happens to be the best man at the family wedding Landon is attending.
Austin – he is best friends with the bride, though he would have liked to have been more than friends with her. He is extremely handsome, has a Texas drawl and plays the guitar. He had plans to ruin the wedding because he didn’t want to see his friend Marissa married to a guy like Bradyn.

The story: This story was smart and funny from the get-go. I really liked Joanna’s sense of humor, and her personality was great. While on the “fake date” with Landon, her one job was to do anything she had to, in order to get his mother to like her so that the mother wouldn’t set him up with a co-worker for the wedding. So, when the mother wanted Joanna to be Landon’s plus one to the wedding, she readily agreed. I thought that was so funny. I also loved the fact that Joanna and Landon had no chemistry all night, they sort of disliked each other until they kissed and then it was explosive.

I have read quite a few of Cassie Cole’s reverse harem romances and I like the way she tells a story. She always has more to the story than just the romance. Her books are steamy, but also have fun storylines. This one was no different. The convoluted relationships Joanna had with her three men were quite fun to read about, and I really liked each of the guys in their own way. There was a lot of humor in this book as well. I was laughing out loud every few minutes.

Even knowing how much I have liked Cassie Cole books in the past, this one still came as a surprise to me. It was exceptionally good and though it was light and funny, it was pure enjoyment. The intimate scenes were so steamy, and I really loved how the main characters got to know each other and each of the guys had a different kind of bond with Joanna.
