Earlier this morning, Monday 9th May, Adrienne Warren and Joshua Henry announced the nominees for the 75th Tony Awards. The ceremony will be held this year at Radio City Music Hall, the first time it has been back to the venue since Broadway reopened late last year.
This year’s ceremony will be hosted by Oscar winner Ariana DeBose, who originally got her break on Broadway, many years ago. This year’s ceremony will be televised but also be streamed across the country.
A Strange Loop lead the charge with 11 nominations and this was followed by MJ and Paradise Square as they both received 10 nominations each. The Lehman Trilogy took home 8 nominations and the play for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enouf earned 7 nominations.
Leading the charge with the actor and actress nomination in the musical category are Billy Crystal Mr. Saturday Night, Hugh Jackman The Music Man, Sutton Foster The Music Man, Matt Doyle Company, Shoshana Bean Mr. Saturday Night and Patti LuPone Company.
No matter who wins it will be an exciting night, more so for the return of live performance after what has been a tough couple of years, thanks to the global pandemic.
