64 Artists for Wauwatosa

Art Call

Wauwatosa seeks 64 artists in the US to participate in the second annual ART 64 event on June 9 & 10, 2023. ART 64 is a two-day bracket-style painting competition in the village of Wauwatosa. This competition is highlighting diverse, US nationwide artists and covering local businesses. ART 64 by Discover Wauwatosa organizes in four rounds artists that are paired to go head-to-head and for 60 minutes create a work of art on a predetermined theme on canvas. There are members of the public, in-person and virtually who are invited to watch the painting creating alive and vote for their favorite artists to advance online and win up to $20,000 grand prize.

Painting at instant moment is also a process, and it begins with the right away idea, and continues with very short study, where it includes preliminary layers and finish. Human mind is like a garden, in which thoughts buzz, coming to visit a moment, then moving on and allowing new thoughts to buzz in. In such a short notice artist can not control mind. Everything gets too tight. A different style and individual priorities are set in the moment, which lasts only 60 min. It is apparent that the complexity of moment inspiration can be determined by instant brain work, in order to do something simple. Non-complex scene do not require many elements though. There is something called an “autopilot”. It is our left brain’s favorite mode. While painting, it is when the act of painting starts to feel automatic and creative side of the brain is no longer engaged. The movement from big to small and otherwise, keeps right brain active. It also can help to integrate parts of instant image to the whole. 60 minute artwork of applied patterns or too much symmetry may decrease a power. Any other idea or picture on mind can be automatic something we do not notice that much in such a short notice. It is the language that artist use to describe personal inner world to paint the world of instant experience. The words also can be a paint brush and “artistic conversation” while working can lead the way. A bit of the insight on the situation: it seems like other artists around constantly thinking too, and the brain may just turn blank, or we think that it is blank and what comes out at this moment can also be a work of art, but participants need to work for only 60 minutes.

A bit of the money for everyone. All selected participants receive money for participating, at first round competitors to receive a total of $100, second round competitors to receive $200, third round competitors to receive $400, and final round competitors to receive $800 for their participation. The sole winner of ART 64 receives $20,000 in total.
