5 Steps to Charm Your Bag – Vilma Iris

  • Anchor on a statement piece

Choose a piece that draws the eye. This is the charm that incites the ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs.’ It’s the one that stops others on the street so they can gush about it.

Examples of a statement piece include the chunky Sugar Rush Classic Candy charms, with their specialty, blingy beads, or chains that drape across the front or side of your bag dangling with charms that speak to who you are and what you love.

  • Add some whimsy

How you charm your bag is a form of self expression. What vibe do you want to give off? How do your charms convey some of what you love? Adding in nostalgic toys or fun figures and plushies is a great way to integrate personality.

  • Soften the silhouette with texture

I love a soft or pearl bow draped afront a bag, or a modern paracord twisty element. Or when you’re adding whimsy, consider adding a crochet piece to add textural interest.  It’s about achieving the balance of hard and soft for visual interest. • Continue to layer to taste

Once you’ve charmed with an elevated statement piece, some whimsy, and something soft or textural, keep layering to your taste. I personally love a really really charmed out bag. I love a showstopping charm moment, but some of you may like a simpler look… so work to a look that fits your style!

  • Consider the scale + vibe

Lastly, before you walk out the door, step back and look at your bag and consider the scale and balance of your charms. Are all of them big or small or do you have a good mix of both? Do you have vertical balance (charms coming down your bag) or are you trying to intentionally go for an asymmetrical look?

I also like to design my look based on my mood — sometimes, I want to be particularly playful and I amp up the whimsy, other times, I want to tout a more elevated look and I bring out the bling and pearl accessories. Sometimes I want to rock a monochromatic color palette, while other times I want to be more visually chaotic with all the colors represented.

Give it this final look and then take your fabulous bag out to show it off!
